Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting three students aged 12-14 from rural Romania as part of their Erasmus cultural exchange programme. For three days, the students joined our school community, taking part in a range of activities designed to help them experience daily life at KIS while sharing aspects of their own culture.
During their stay, the visiting students attended twelve lessons alongside year 8-9, including Maths, Science, and English allowing them to engage with our curriculum and collaborate with their peers. Our students enjoyed the chance to meet new classmates, compare school experiences, and practise communication across cultures.
A highlight of the exchange was a traditional Slovene baking workshop led by Ms. Polona, our afterschool baking co-ordinator, where both our students and the Romanian guests learned how to prepare Potica, a classic Slovene dessert - a staple for the Christmas table in all Slovene households. As we have a diverse student body, this was many students' first time making the dish, and some students first time trying it. The workshop offered a relaxed, creative environment for cultural learning and teamwork.
