One Term and Half a Year Admissions
Joining Koper International School (KISS) for one term or half a year offers an invaluable opportunity for students to immerse themselves in a world-class British educational experience in a diverse setting surrounded by peers from around the world.
We offer this program throughout all primary years and in lower secondary (Years 7, 8, and 9), as well as the first half of Year 10 and Year 12, this program allows students to engage with the rigorous British curriculum developing critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills. The diverse learning environment fosters global citizenship, encouraging students to connect with peers from various cultural backgrounds and gain new perspectives on learning and life.
Our short-term enrollment is designed to maximize personal and academic growth. Students benefit from exposure to innovative teaching methodologies that differ from traditional state school approaches, focusing on inquiry-based learning, collaboration, and independent study. For those needing additional language support, our tailored English as an Additional Language (EAL) stream ensures they can thrive in an English-speaking environment (this is just for English Language lessons, all other subjects are with their peers). This holistic and immersive approach prepares students not only for academic success but also for personal development and confidence in a global context.
While we offer short-term enrollment in most year groups, we do not permit it in Years 11 and 13 due to the focus on GCSE and A-Level examinations. These critical years require a sustained commitment to coursework and exam preparation, which would limit the benefits of a shorter stay. However, for students in other years, the experience is a perfect blend of academic challenge, cultural enrichment, and language immersion, making it a transformative educational opportunity.
If your child is the ‘right age’ for year 11 or 13, they are still welcome to join us for a semester but in the academic year group below.
FAQ
Please speak to the school you are enrolled in, but in our experience yes they do.
Yes, but if you are coming from the classics high school, we advise you to keep studying Latin or Ancient Greek externally to ensure you progress in those subjects at the correct level.
This is to cover the administration cost. If you decide to continue studying for the whole academic year, the costs will be adjusted on the next payment.
A half-year or one-term enrollment at Koper International School offers students a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in English education while experiencing a vibrant, diverse learning environment. Studying alongside peers from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds enhances global awareness and interpersonal skills. We have a strong emphasis on critical thinking skills and project based learning in primary school, which will give your child a different perspective. Exposure to the British curriculum introduces students to innovative teaching methodologies that emphasize critical thinking, creativity, and independent learning—key distinctions from many state schools. With tailored English support through our EAL stream (if needed), students rapidly develop language proficiency in a supportive setting, making this short-term experience both academically enriching and personally transformative.
Please speak to admissions and our director. This will be decided on a case by case basis.
We cannot give you a written guarantee, but we can say it is almost certain a student who joins us for a term's English will improve greatly, as well as their confidence in using the language.
They will be assessed alongside their classmates with the same tests twice a term. This will be at the midterm and at the end of term. These are formal assessments, the amount of ‘informal’ assessments will vary per teacher. Assessments can take form in written exams, class presentations, and projects.
Our assessments are not multiple choice tests, except for some Sciences and Maths tests.
No, this is not a problem, for English lessons they will be taken out of their main class to English Second Language classes, which will target language development. We believe in an immersive approach, so everything else will be with their peers and completely in English! You will see the progress after a few months, children are very resilient and adaptable.
Once you have decided to continue, please email our administration department to secure your child's place, as we may have other students joining or on a waiting list.
Yes, but we will require an in person meeting to discuss a ‘plan’, as this should not be a long term solution.
Yes they can. This will be a fee per exam (as our all year round students also do, this is approx 80 per subject), and half a terms fee to cover costs (approx, 1,700 euros).
As per the contract you sign when joining our school, you will get a refund with 2 weeks tuition fee will be deducted. For example, you have signed to do the first 4 month term with us, but you withdraw after 1 month. You will get a 75% refund minus 2 weeks, which will be roughly a 62% refund.
We have scholarships available on a case by case basis, and they are ‘means’ tested. Students who are from less affluent backgrounds but who have academic excellence would be eligible for a significant fee reduction.
