Year 10–12 Exchange Trip to Bucharest, Romania

Our Year 10–12 students recently returned from an unforgettable five-day exchange trip to Bucharest, Romania, packed with cultural learning, adventure, and new friendships.

A highlight of the trip was visiting our partner school in Bucharest, where students took part in a meaningful cultural exchange in a technical rural school 1h out of Bucharest, experiencing the cultural difference. This included a small workshop led in English alongside Romanian students and a traditional Romanian food tasting, giving everyone the chance to experience local flavours and learn more about everyday life in Romania. The exchange was a fantastic opportunity for students to build international connections and develop cultural awareness.

The group also explored some of Romania’s most famous landmarks. A visit to Bran Castle – widely known as Dracula’s Castle – was a memorable experience, combining history, legend, and stunning scenery. Although this was a 3 hour journey each way, this once in a lifetime experience was definitely memorable. In Bucharest itself, students enjoyed a city tour, learning about Romania’s complex history, architecture, and culture, from grand boulevards to historic squares. We also visited the national art museum which our students enjoyed immensely.

For a challenge of a different kind, the students tested their teamwork and problem-solving skills in a high-pressure escape room, which proved both demanding and great fun. And, of course, no city trip would be complete without some free time — the group enjoyed a little shopping and exploring, making the most of Bucharest’s lively atmosphere.

This exchange was a brilliant experience for our students, encouraging independence, confidence, and global understanding. We are incredibly proud of how they represented our school and look forward to continuing our partnership with our Romanian hosts in the future.
