A Home Away From Home
Moving to another country to study is an exciting adventure, but it can also feel overwhelming for both students and their families. At Koper International School, we understand how important it is for every student to feel safe, supported, and cared for while living away from home.
Our Homestay Boarding Programme offers students the opportunity to live with carefully selected local families who provide not only accommodation, but also a genuine home environment. Many of our host families become a student's "second family", offering encouragement, guidance, and emotional support throughout their time in Slovenia.
Living with a host family allows students to experience everyday Slovenian life while continuing to enjoy an international education in English.
What is Homestay Boarding?
Students live with one of our approved host families during the academic year. Every family welcomes students as a member of their household, helping them settle into their new environment and supporting them as they become more independent.
Homestay accommodation includes:
A safe, caring and welcoming family environment.
A private or shared bedroom Study space with Wi-Fi access Breakfast and dinner every day Laundry facilities.
A supportive adult available whenever needed Help with adjusting to life in Slovenia.
A comfortable home where students can relax and feel part of the family.
Our aim is to ensure that every student feels secure, respected, and valued throughout their stay.
Carefully Selected Host Families
The wellbeing of our students is our highest priority. We work to identify host families who can provide a safe, welcoming, and supportive home environment for our international students.
Families interested in becoming hosts complete an application process, which may include interviews, reference checks, and a home visit where appropriate.
As our Homestay Programme continues to grow, we aim to match each student with the most suitable host family available, taking into consideration factors such as age, personality, interests, lifestyle, language, and any individual needs. While we do our best to make the most appropriate match, every placement is made with the student's wellbeing and comfort as our primary focus.
Continuous Student Support
Our responsibility does not end once a student moves into their host family's home.
Throughout the year, our Admissions Team and school staff maintain regular contact with both students and host families to ensure that everything is going well.
Students are encouraged to speak to us whenever they need advice or support.
Should any concerns arise, we work closely with both the family and the student to resolve them promptly.
If necessary, alternative accommodation can also be arranged.
Students and parents can be confident that support is always available.
Living in Slovenia
Homestay accommodation gives students the unique opportunity to experience authentic Slovenian culture while studying at an international school.

Accommodation Options & Fees
Homestay accommodation is available from approximately €600 – €800 per month, depending on the accommodation provided.
The monthly fee varies according to factors such as:
- Private or shared bedroom
- Private or shared bathroom
- Location of the host family
- Individual accommodation arrangements
The accommodation fee includes:
Breakfast and dinner
Wi-Fi
Laundry facilities
Utility costs
Ongoing support from the school
School lunches, school trips, uniforms, textbooks and examination fees are charged separately.
