Welcoming Slovak Trainee Teachers to Our Primary School

Our school is proud to celebrate a meaningful and enriching Erasmus+ partnership with the University of Nitra in Slovakia, an experience that has strengthened our commitment to international collaboration and multicultural learning. As part of this partnership, we were delighted to host four trainee primary teachers from Slovakia for a two week period. During their time with us, they became a valued part of our school community, bringing enthusiasm, curiosity, and a global perspective into our classrooms. The visiting trainees had the opportunity to observe a wide range of best practices across our primary setting. From engaging teaching strategies to inclusive classroom environments, they gained first-hand insight into how we support and inspire our pupils every day. Beyond observation, they actively contributed to lessons, working alongside our staff to support children’s learning and development.

Their involvement extended beyond the classroom as well. The trainees enthusiastically participated in our after-school activities, building positive relationships with pupils and staff while experiencing the wider life of our school. These informal moments were just as valuable, helping to foster cultural exchange and mutual understanding.

One of the highlights of their visit was the opportunity for the trainees to share their own culture. Under the guidance of Mrs. Whitton, the trainees planned and delivered lessons on Slovak culture and geography for our Year 1 and Year 2 pupils, while two of the trainees also did the same for our Year 4 to Year 6 pupils under the guidance of Ms. Vlacovich. These sessions were vibrant, interactive, and inspiring, introducing children to new traditions, landscapes, and ways of life. They also brought Slovak cheese for us to try, which was a lovely and authentic touch that everyone really enjoyed. It was wonderful to see our pupils so engaged and excited to learn about another country.

This partnership has been a truly enriching experience for everyone involved. It has reinforced the importance of embracing diversity, broadening perspectives, and preparing our pupils to be global citizens. We are incredibly proud to be part of a programme that brings people together through education, and we look forward to continuing to build strong international connections in the future.
