We were thrilled and honoured to be selected to participate in this year’s Maker Faire Trieste, one of the region’s most exciting celebrations of creativity, science, innovation and hands-on learning. Held in the beautiful Piazza Unità d’Italia, the event brought together makers, educators, scientists and families from across the region to share ideas and inspire curiosity. At the Koper International School stand, our Primary School students proudly demonstrated a series of interactive volcano science experiments and optical illusion activities, inviting children and families to explore science through discovery, creativity and play. Visitors were able to experience exciting volcanic reactions, investigate how optical illusions trick the brain, and take part in hands-on experiments designed to spark curiosity and imagination.
One of the most special aspects of our participation was that we presented our activities in four languages: English, Italian, Slovene and German. In a city like Trieste, historically multicultural and shaped by both Italian and Austro-Hungarian heritage, this was a meaningful way to celebrate and honour the region’s rich cultural identity and multilingual traditions.
Children who participated at our stand received a special “Young Scientist” certificate from Koper International School, recognising their enthusiasm, curiosity and scientific thinking. Seeing so many young learners excited about science was truly rewarding for our team.
The Maker Faire was also a wonderful opportunity for us to connect with the local community and showcase the hands-on, project-based learning approach that is at the heart of our Primary School programme. We believe children learn best when they actively explore, create, experiment and collaborate, and events like this allow us to bring that philosophy to life beyond the classroom.
We would like to thank the organisers of Maker Faire Trieste for creating such an inspiring event and for giving us the opportunity to share our passion for learning with the wider community. We are already looking forward to the next edition!
